Strength and Conditioning for Swimming
What Dr Lakomy thinks
'This is the best book of its kind. It takes into account a whole host of ability ranges and equipment availability. I would recommend this manual to anyone interested in bettering their performance in the water. The CD ROMs serve as a perfect visual and coaching aid.'
Dr Henryk Lakomy, White Dolphin
Expert's Comment
'The Best form of muscular endurance for swimming is achieved in the water. What the land training needs to provide is something that can add to the water training, not replicate it.'
Bob Smith, EIS, Working with our Olympic Swimmers

Description
Bob Smith, the senior Land Conditioning consultant for EIS/British Swimming, has produced a structured, progressive and coherent programme of strength and conditioning for swimming.

The programme progresses from boys and girls aged 11 through to the elite senior swimmer. Where training status and maturation permits appropriate techniques are added, which will result in all elite swimmers becoming fully conversant with the training principles underpinning strength and conditioning.

Using the manual, coaches will be able to develop a personal programme for each swimmer, which can be periodised around the swimming year and major competitions.

The booklet and accompanying CD ROM fully describes the principles at all levels of development, clearly describing the specific skills and techniques at each level. Each exercise is illustrated using colour photos in the booklet, and is shown as a video clip on the CD ROM.
